Have you ever been in, or close to, a burn out phase in your life? Sit back and take a look at the movie theater of your mind, right now.
Is every day a bad day?
Are you exhausted all the time?
Do you feel unappreciated or nothing you do seems to make a difference any more?
If you were leaning towards yes to those questions you maybe close to having burn out.
Burnout is a state of emotional, mental, and physical exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress.
What has this past week looked liked in your life?
There are things you can do for stress, which is the leading cause for burnout.
One thing you can do is watch for the warning signs – those things I just mentioned above.
Another would be to start managing your stress. Either by altering it, avoiding it, adapting to it or just accepting it.
I think most importantly you should build toughness or have a bounce back spirit. This can only go on so long, but it might get you through a busy time at work.
You must take care of your physical and emotional health.
This weekend I want you to think about what might be causing your burn out. Is it your job, the lifestyle you’re leading or is your personality? Are you a perfectionist?
In a burn out situation the primary damage is emotional. But be careful it could lead to depression.
If you do have to work this weekend, enjoy yourself. In Colossians 3 it says: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters…
If you do not have to work this weekend, enjoy yourself! Go do something that you usually wouldn’t do. Go see a movie, go to a fall festival.
Did you notice my encouragement is the same for whatever life brings this weekend? Enjoy life! Be well.
